Follow ICA biometric guidelines for the best chance of first-time approval.
Position your smartphone about 1.5 to 2 metres away. Use the rear camera and, if possible, have someone else take the photo so your shoulders stay level and undistorted.
Look straight into the lens with your head centred and shoulders fully visible. Avoid tilting your head or rotating your body.
Face a window in daylight for even illumination. Harsh shadows on the background are a common reason ICA rejects photos.
Keep a neutral expression, mouth closed, and eyes naturally open. No glare on glasses; tuck hair behind ears if it covers your face.
What happens to your photo and how acceptance works.
Your upload is processed through our configured passport-photo API. The scan log shows automated checks for background, framing, and related ICA-oriented rules before you pay.
Images are used only for passport-photo generation and fulfillment. Clean and watermarked files are permanently destroyed after 48 hours, in line with our privacy policy.
Final passport photo acceptance is determined solely by the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Digital purchases are final once the official file is delivered.
Common questions about size, ICA rules, and getting photos near you.
The physical dimensions required for a printed passport photo must be exactly 35mm wide by 45mm high. For digital uploads submitted through the ICA e-Service portal, the preferred dimension is 400 x 514 pixels.
Yes, head coverings are permitted for religious or medical reasons. However, the covering must be dark in color to provide sufficient contrast against the mandatory white background. Additionally, your full face, from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead, must be clearly visible.
Standard selfies often distort facial features due to the wide-angle lenses typically used in front-facing smartphone cameras. We strongly recommend having someone else take the photo from a distance of about 2 meters, or using a tripod, to ensure a professional and undistorted result.
No. The ICA strictly prohibits the use of colored contact lenses or "circle lenses" that alter the natural appearance or size of your eyes. Only clear, non-tinted prescription lenses are allowed.
While pure white is the standard requirement, the ICA does allow for a light grey background if your hair is white or very light. This exception ensures there is enough contrast for the system to clearly distinguish the edges of your head from the background.
Your submitted photo must have been taken within the last three months. This ensures the image accurately reflects your current appearance for identification purposes.
